The Bachelor of Performing Arts (Comedy) at Collarts develops your professional comedy skills and performance expertise, giving you the creative, technical, and collaborative foundations needed to excel in theatre, screen, live performance, and digital media. You’ll gain practical experience in comedy performance, writing, production, improvisation, and comedic storytelling, alongside a strong theoretical understanding of the entertainment and performing arts industries.
Under the guidance of industry-recognised comedians, writers, and performing arts professionals, you’ll build your craft through hands-on workshops, collaborative projects, and practical production experiences. The course fosters a well-rounded skill set in comedic timing, creative problem-solving, performance, and entrepreneurship, preparing you to engage confidently in diverse performance environments.
You’ll also have opportunities to collaborate with students across creative disciplines to gain insight into the broader arts, entertainment, and digital media industries.

This course takes you behind the curtain to learn from lecturers who have already accomplished the goals you have for your comedy career.
You'll learn all the foundations of comedy including writing, improvisation, clown, self-devising material, script and character development, and all the business side of the industry including producing, directing, technical production and managing your own career.

Work behind the scenes crafting scripts and jokes with a keen understanding of comedic timing and a flair for wordplay. Create hilarious scenarios, dialogue, one-liners, topical humour, punchlines and full scripts for stage and screen working with industry producers and artists.
Perform live with well-crafted jokes and hilarious performances. Use observational humour, clever one-liners or anecdotal tales to navigate the absurdities of life with your unique comedic persona, connecting with audiences through shared experiences and relatable tales.
Act on stage or screen, bringing characters to life with impeccable timing and physicality. Use expressive vocal and gesticulation skills to amplify the humour of any situation, delivering punchlines through comedic performances. Comic actors are also successful on TV panel shows as well as dramatic screen work due to their unique timing and adaptable performance ability.
Renowned for her characterisations, Andrea has written and performed 15 comedies for theatre, for which she has received three Comedy Awards and one Green Room Awards nomination. Her best-known character is Ethel Chop, but she has a suite of others in her repertoire and also performs stand-up and hosting roles as herself. She has many TV credits including The Panel, Kath and Kim, The Librarians, Micallef Tonight, Judith Lucy’s Spiritual Journey, Judith Lucy Is All Woman, Please Like Me, Utopia, Get Krack'n, and many more.

An actor, comedian, writer and game designer, Ben describes himself as “a nerd for all seasons”. He has written and performed stand-up, sketch and improv comedy for over a decade. He has been a voice actor and narrator for video, apps and games, though he is best known for travelling through time and space with Jackie Woodburne (Susan from Neighbours) in the BBC radio series he co-created, Night Terrace.
