"It’s truly my favourite time of year when every nook and cranny of our city is filled with brilliant comedians and all things silly, and this year I was beyond fortunate to join the Comedy Fest team as a Marketing Intern.’’ - Chloe Turner, Collarts Digital and Social Media student
Chloe Turner is a Digital and Social Media student who took the initiative to apply for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival internship, in partnership with Collarts. Over the course of the festival, Chloe contributed to the marketing team by creating social graphics, copy and content for events including the Opening Gala and Festival Club, as well as producing promotional video content for the Roadshow Festival.
Digital and social media continues to be one of Australia’s fastest-growing career paths, with over 100,000 professionals employed across advertising and marketing roles, according to Jobs and Skills Australia.
While the industry can be competitive, Collarts encourages students to go for internships and volunteer experiences to build their portfolios and real-world skills early.
Chloe says: “It was so wonderful getting to expand on skills I'd developed during my time at Collarts in a real-world scenario, and my confidence in my own abilities has grown so much since completing this internship.”
As part of the festival experience, Collarts Comedy Club showcases students performing original stand-up, sketch and character work in a dynamic live setting, giving emerging comedians the opportunity to perform in front of a live audience, often for the very first time.
Studying comedy is a niche pathway that places students directly within the industry, building confidence, performance skills and professional networks from day one. Hear from Razz, a Comedy graduate who performed at last year’s festival, about how they found their community at Collarts and how their career has evolved since.
Collarts maintains strong industry partnerships with organisations including the Melbourne International Film Festival, Melbourne Fashion Week, Australian Women in Music and more. These collaborations provide students with meaningful, hands-on experiences that extend learning beyond the classroom and into real creative careers.
