If you're looking to study photography in Melbourne with mentors who actually work in the field, the Collarts Photography course is the place to start. From commercial advertising to humanitarian photojournalism, fine art to performance photography, our Photography lecturers represent a broad spectrum of creative careers.
The best way to grow as a photographer is to learn from those who’ve walked different paths, taken creative risks, and carved out their own place in the industry—because photography is not one-size-fits-all.

Led by Program Leader Rikki Bunder, the Bachelor of Photography at Collarts doesn’t just teach technique—it opens doors to new ways of seeing and thinking. After more than a decade shooting sleek commercial campaigns (including high-end automotive work), Rikki is now a practising photographic artist working within the landscape genre. His journey shows just how flexible and ever-evolving a creative career can be.
Joining Rikki is Christina Simons, our Photography Coordinator and a leader in the documentary photography and photojournalism space. Christina’s work has appeared in The New York Times, The Guardian, Newsweek and The Wall Street Journal—and she’s collaborated with humanitarian organisations including Médecins Sans Frontières, the UN and UNICEF. Her approach is deeply human and empathetic, showing students how photography can be a tool for social impact.
Jason Lau brings high-end commercial lifestyle photography to life with clients like Harley Davidson, Google, ANZ and Blundstone.
Vicki Bell is an award-winning portrait photographer with 20+ years of experience capturing the human spirit.
Nicole Marie works with councils and community groups to document stories that amplify marginalised voices and build connection.
Jess Ledwich is an award-winning visual artist whose work explores gender, identity and the body in bold, unforgettable ways.
Aaron Walker blends commercial and performance photography to create dynamic, energetic imagery.
Emma Ismawi adds a unique interdisciplinary edge, working as both a photographer and designer in her creative practice.
At Collarts, we don’t expect you to fit into a box. Our Photography course is designed to help you carve out your own direction with the support of working professionals who are still active in the industry. Whether you're drawn to glossy campaigns, documentary storytelling, editorial work or fine art, you'll be guided by a team who’s done it all—and are still out there doing it.
Because they’re not just teachers. They’re artists, creatives and career photographers who’ve taken risks, challenged norms and built lasting, impactful careers. And now, they’re here to help you do the same.
