Sabrina Schmid

Lecturer

Sabrina Schmid is an animation filmmaker (director and animator) and lecturer in animation. Her area of specialisation is animation, spanning industry practice and ongoing contemporary work. Previously she held a full-time position animation lecturer position at Teesside University in the UK and was awarded a Fellowship in Higher Education by The Higher Education Academy. She holds a Graduate Diploma in Film and Television (Animation) from Swinburne University of Technology, and a Post-Graduate Diploma and Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art Painting with Distinction from RMIT, Melbourne. Her teaching qualifications include a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (UK, 2005) and a Graduate Certificate of Educational Design form Monash University, Melbourne (2023). Her recent short animation ‘Play’ screened at major international animation festivals, including at the London International Animation Festival 2025 UK, Animaze Montreal International Animation Festival 2025 Canada, Melbourne International Animation Festival 2025, Punto Y Raya Festival 2025 Bulgaria, Ann Arbor Film Festival 2026 USA.


Currently she works as a casual academic teacher at Collarts, teaching animation and storyboarding on the 2D Animation program. Recently, a poster about her current teaching practice was presented in the Teaching & Learning Symposium Collarts – November 2025, Australian College of the Arts. The unit Storyboarding & Cinematography reflects her approach to teaching using a flipped classroom pedagogy and gamification to engage students with learning content. In the practical classes students follow a workflow aligned to industry practice to prepare them to work independently or in a studio. Students receive regular weekly feedback and develop their own original stories to animatics stage.
