The Game Design course is perfect for students who want to enter the gaming world from a creative perspective. Embrace the fundamental idea of play—such as interactions between players, story, and rules—and create your own immersive gaming worlds. Learn the context behind contemporary gaming history, develop skills in interactive design, and apply this knowledge to a real-life capstone project.
Students are also encouraged to cast an inclusive and accessible eye over their studies, developing their understanding of community ethics, diversity, inclusive design, and the politics of games, so that they enter the industry knowing how to make it a safer space for future generations.
You will undertake fundamental units in User Experience, gaming culture, interactive narrative and interface design, writing for games, environment and character design, contemporary design history, design law and ethics, and game marketing.
Collarts offers students a variety of real-life industry experiences so that they are career-ready when they graduate. With the opportunity to create a capstone project, undertake industry placement, and develop a professional portfolio, students will leave the course prepared for a successful career in game design.

The Bachelor of Game Design is perfect for students who want to understand the tools, cultural contexts, and design pillars to become creative game design professionals.
Experiment and explore game design as a creative practice, diving into the concept of play while developing your critical thinking around ethical and cultural debates in the gaming industry. You'll get the chance to playtest your skills throughout your studies, tie up what you've learned by producing a game design project, and develop your professional portfolio or complete 60 hours of industry placement.
The Bachelor degree can be completed in six trimesters (2 years) of full-time study or part-time equivalent.

The Bachelor and Diploma of Game Design are recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework, accredited through CRICOS; CRICOS Code 110056B (2 years)/110057A (3 years) & 110060F (2 trimesters)/110061E (3 trimesters).
The Diploma of Game Design is perfect for students who want to learn the foundations of game design, from creative and technical knowledge to cultural contexts in the gaming industry. You'll also gain experience in the key conventions, systems, and processes of game design, exploring how play is an important factor in all.
The diploma can be completed in two trimesters (8 months) of full-time study and you have the opportunity to progress into the Bachelor Degree (subject to academic performance).

→ The Diploma can be used as a pathway into the Bachelor degree
