The Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) is back this August, and this year, the work of our students and alumni is taking centre stage.

MIFF is one of Australia’s longest-running and most loved film festivals, and it’s all about bold storytelling and fresh creative voices — values we live and breathe at Collarts. That’s why we’re proud to continue our partnership with MIFF for 2025, shining a spotlight on the talent, teamwork and innovation from our emerging artists.

Sounds of Collarts hits the big screen

This year, festival audiences will see Sounds of Collarts — a short film created by our Screen & Media students, alumni and staff — screening as a cinema ad before over 150 films at MIFF.

Sounds of Collarts is a cross-disciplinary creative project that brings together music, film, design, and production to showcase the energy and diversity of the Collarts community. Made entirely by our own creative minds, it captures the sights, sounds, and spirit of creativity on campus — all in one epic collaboration.

Celebrating emerging filmmakers: the Schools Jury Award

We’re also stoked to present the MIFF Schools Jury Award, supporting the next wave of filmmakers. This year’s jury features three rising stars — Mia Sattler, Alex Feehan, and Tadhg Sheehan — picked from the Top Screen program. Mentored by Collarts filmmaker and lecturer Lucy Coleman, they’ll watch, review and select the winning film, which comes with a $10,000 prize!

Real-world experience, real connections

Our partnership with MIFF isn’t just about the screen, it’s about opening doors. From industry opportunities like Screen & Media student Billie Mullan’s events internship at MIFF, to content creation and networking opportunities, our students are gaining real-world skills and connections that set them up for success.

Whether you’re at MIFF for the premieres, the indie hits, or the festival vibe, keep an eye out for Sounds of Collarts on the big screen!
