If lockdown taught photographers anything, it’s that creativity knows no bounds.
Last March saw the launch of Collarts’ new Photography degree–designed to teach the fundamentals and technical skills for anyone passionate about visual storytelling–with first intakes commencing in Trimester 2 2021.
As face-to-face Photography students have access to photographic equipment on campus, including various light kits and on-site studios, online Photography students will receive a Collarts loaned studio lighting kit, so they can continue to hone their skills at home.
Housing equipment with a rough value of $1200, each hire kit boasts all the essentials for the ultimate lighting setup and caters to photographers of all levels. The Loan Studio Lighting Kits will come complete with two flash heads, softboxes, stands and wireless triggers. If you need a refresher, we’ve rounded up the perks of using each one.
Designed to soften, diffuse and improve low light, a softbox is useful for controlling the light’s shape and direction. Its reflective interiors combined with translucent nylon material work together to produce soft and natural-looking light, creating a gentle finish to all imagery whether it's portraits, editorial or product photography.
The provided flash heads are the key to a photography studio setup. With a power of 400Ws and a fast recycling time, students will be able to experiment with numerous photographic projects.
No cables needed here. These supplied wireless triggers are placed on top of the camera, giving students freedom and flexibility within their home studio. Once set up, students will be able to fire the studio lights without the worry of any tangled cords in the way.
Head of Photography Rikki Bunder shares the benefits of using the kits, "This is an excellent kit for students to develop their photographic studio lighting skills."
"This will effectively enable students to create their own home studio where they can play and experiment."
Online Photography students can get their hands on the Studio Lighting Kits after the census date.
