We nabbed bluesy, soulful singer Kee'ahn as the headliner for our first Online O-Week Party of the year, who kicked off Collarts' 2021 with smooth sailing. Still flying high off the success of her debut single 'Better Things', we asked the Kuku Yalanji, Jirrbal and Badu Island musician what she's been listening to so far this year.
One — Cleo Sol
"Beautiful vintage inspired production to accompany Cleo’s STUNNING voice. The bass line in this song is bumping. Has some cool key changes that whisk you away just a little before bringing you back in with Cleo’s attention grabbing voice."
Wonderful — Burna Boy
"My favourite morning song at the moment. So so so so positive and happy!"
The Other Black Dog — Genesis Owusu
"Pretty obsessed with Genesis Owusu. This is his newest track, and the beat makes me want to go for a big long run. I hate running. Therefore, this is a mad track."
50K Carat — Tessa Thames
"Any song that starts with an choir and a deeeeep bass vocalist is already a bop in my books. I play this song in my car when I need a pick-me-up. Super cute."
Martha Sways — Andy Shauf
"On the other side of the coin—when I want dive into some bubbling emotions of past love, this song by Andy Shauf does the trick. A soft, heart breaking lullaby."
Say a Little Prayer (Live) — Lianne La Havas
"I have listened to this more than a million times and I still shiver hearing it. The control over her voice, guitar and even over the audience is mesmerising. This cover inspired my version of this Aretha Franklin track."
Twisting Words — Miiesha
"Sister Miiesha is a Pitjantjatjara, Torres Strait Islander woman who blew UP last year. This song is incredibly uplifting and highlights her eclectic vocals and THE GUITAR SOLOS! I was lucky to see this live at BigSound 2019 and she will always be one of my all-time favourite songwriters."
Electric Pow Wow Drum — The Halluci Nation
(fka The Tribe Called Red)
"Chucking it over to First Nations folks on Turtle Island (so-called North and Central America), The Tribe called Red have provided this track of pure fiiiiiiiire. Guaranteed to make you jump."
I’m Every Woman — Chaka Khan
"Finishing with the queen of disco/funk, Chaka Khan, and this BIG TRACK. Dance! Release that stress! Sending the Collarts fam goooood vibes with this track."
