FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What qualifications do you need to deliver VET?

To deliver any VET qualification, trainers must have a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAA40104 or TAE40110 from 2011). This qualification demonstrates your competency to deliver and assess competency-based training. Qualified teachers with Diploma/Bachelor of Education must still complete the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. For more information on this qualification, click here. Trainers also need to have either:

  • A relevant industry qualification (to the level they are training or above); or
  • A mapping document aligning skills/experience to the units of competency within the course being delivered (Ausmusic College can help you with this information).

For more information on the training qualification, email tour request to our VET Program Leader jroberts@collarts.edu.au

Can I deliver units of competency without the whole course? What are the fees for this?

Yes. Schools may opt to deliver specific units from a VET qualification instead of the entire qualification. Students who complete this will achieve a Statement of Attainment for the units of competency they complete. The course fee for delivering any qualification (full or in part) is the same, however the individual student fee may vary depending on the number of units delivered. Contact Collarts to discuss your situation with our VET Program Leader jroberts@collarts.edu.au

Do I have to do the Ausmusic College Assessments, or can I make my own?

To ensure compliance with education regulations and equity across all education partners, Ausmusic College Assessments must be used.

What kind of facilities do I need to run a course?

Facilities may vary depending on the qualification delivered. All education partners must have access to the internet and a classroom or workplace environment. The following is a minimum for all Certificate courses:

  • Instruments and rehearsal rooms
  • Performance space
  • Digital audio workstations (Pro Tools/Logic/Nuendo/Cubase/Sonar) for recording and editing sound
  • Basic PA system for a local venue or theatre PA (12 + channels)
  • Selection of condenser and dynamic microphones for recording and live performance.

Can I deliver a Cert III in one year?

For Victorian schools delivering VCE VET, the Certificate III is offered over two years. Units 1 and 2 are completed in the first year, and Units 3 and 4 are completed the following year. Refer to the VET VCE course outlines for descriptions of this program. Schools delivering VET only need to contact Collarts to discuss delivery options for the Certificate III program.

What's the difference between VET, and VET in the VCE?

VET in the VCE or VCAL allows students to include vocational studies as part of their senior secondary certificate. Students undertake nationally recognised training from either accredited state curriculum or national training packages, which may contribute to their VCE and/or VCAL.

VCE VET programs are vocational training programs approved by the VCAA. VCE VET programs lead to nationally recognised qualifications thereby offering students the opportunity to gain both the VCE and a nationally portable VET qualification. For more information on VCE and VET click here.

Are nominal hours mandatory or can my students complete the course in a shorter period?

The nominal hours attached to each unit of competence are calculated by Skills Victoria as an indicator of the training time required to become competent. They are a guide only and the actual duration of the training is affected by student's readiness to be assessed for the particular unit of competence. It is important to note that the allocation of nominal hours for each unit of competence is intended to cover both delivery and assessment.

What’s the difference between the old training package (CUS01) and the new training package (CUS09)?

CUS09 Music Training Package is a revision of CUS01 Music Industry Training Package. CUS01 was first endorsed in 2001 and provided national qualifications for VET in the music industry for the first time. CUS09 has involved a number of changes to the Training Package. The industry coverage has remained the same, however sound production has been expanded to encompass a broad range of industry production contexts – from live music and stage productions, to sound recording, mixing and editing in the screen, media and interactive games industries.
